Ordos Eerduosi Airport (IATA: DSN) connects to Beijing (about 1.5 hours), Shanghai, and several other major Chinese cities, with multiple daily flights to Beijing. From Hohhot, the drive takes about three hours on the expressway; the train via Baotou is a similar duration but requires a change.
The Ordos railway station, opened in 2016, connects to Baotou in about two hours and to Hohhot in two to four hours depending on the service. Long-distance buses from Hohhot and Baotou run regularly; the bus from Hohhot takes about three hours on the expressway. Once in the city, the split between Dongsheng, Kangbashi, and the Genghis Khan Mausoleum means a hire car or taxi is the practical way to get around — the three main sites are each 30–60 kilometres apart.
