Getting Around

The old city of Yangzhou is compact enough to cover on foot or by bicycle — the distances between the main sights are rarely more than two kilometres. Bicycle rental is available near the main attractions and is the preferred mode for independent visitors. Taxis and Didi ride-hailing are available for longer journeys or for reaching Yangzhoudong Station, which is several kilometres from the historic centre.

Bus routes cover most of the city, but the routes can be confusing without reading Chinese. A taxi or bicycle makes more sense for visiting the Ge Yuan–He Yuan–Dongguan Street area in the morning and then Slender West Lake in the afternoon. The lakeside park itself is large enough to require walking; boat hire on the lake is available if you prefer.
