Shouquan Pagoda

The Shouquan Pagoda stands inside the grounds of Shouquan Temple near the southern tip of Ganzhou's river peninsula. The pagoda is Tang-dynasty construction — brick, six storeys, hexagonal in plan — making it one of the oldest intact structures in the province. It leans slightly from centuries of settlement but shows no sign of imminent collapse.

The temple grounds around it are active and maintained. The pagoda can be climbed partway up to get views over the river confluence and the surrounding old city rooflines. The site is a short walk from the floating pontoon bridge, making it easy to combine with a visit to the riverfront.

A story
The Shouquan Tower (寿量寺内慈云塔) was built in the Tang dynasty and has survived over a thousand years of floods, wars, and political upheavals intact. At six storeys, it is one of the oldest standing brick pagodas in Jiangxi — most structures of this age were destroyed or rebuilt beyond recognition. Local tradition holds that the tower was built to suppress a dragon beneath the confluence of the two rivers and protect the city from flooding.
