Buying ceramics in Jingdezhen is the obvious draw, but the range of what's available — and the quality gap between the best and worst of it — is enormous. The tourist stalls near the Ancient Kiln area sell mass-produced pieces that could have been made anywhere. The interesting purchases happen at the Taoxichuan weekend market, in the Sculpture Factory district studios, and in the small galleries around the old city where local artists display their own work.
