Jingdezhen has more places offering ceramic instruction than any other city in China — the full range runs from afternoon drop-in hand-building sessions for tourists to serious multi-week courses in wheel-throwing, glaze chemistry, and traditional blue-and-white painting. Studios throughout Taoxichuan, Sanbao Village, and the old city offer classes in English and Chinese.
A standard two-hour beginner wheel session costs around ¥150–200 and includes all materials and firing; the finished piece is mailed to you after glazing (allow two weeks). More serious instruction is available through the Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute and through private studios. If you have a few days in the city and any interest in making things with your hands, taking at least one class is worth doing.
