Anyuan Workers' Club

The Anyuan Workers' Club (安源路矿工人俱乐部旧址) is a preserved heritage site in the Anyuan district, a short distance from the coal mine museum. The building was established in 1922 as the organizational headquarters of the Anyuan labor movement — one of the earliest successful trade union operations in China — and served as a community center for mineworkers until the movement was suppressed by the Nationalist government in 1925.

The preserved building contains exhibits on the union's history, the social programs it ran, and the fates of the organizers who worked here. It is a smaller and quieter site than the main museum, but the building's physical authenticity and the specificity of its history make it among the more affecting revolutionary heritage sites in Jiangxi.

A story
The Anyuan Workers' Club, built in 1922 with funds raised by the miners themselves, was one of the first purpose-built labor union halls in Chinese history. Liu Shaoqi served as its director. The building — a modest two-story structure with a distinctive arched entrance — was designed to provide reading materials, education, and meeting space for workers who had previously had none of these. Its existence was a statement that Chinese industrial workers were organizing themselves as a permanent social force, not just striking in reaction to immediate conditions.
