Wugongshan is accessible year-round but dramatically different by season. The high-altitude meadows are most spectacular in summer (June to August) when the grasslands are deep green and the clouds break over the ridgeline; autumn (September to October) brings golden light and cooler temperatures that make camping more comfortable. Winter sees heavy frost and occasional snow at the summit — cold but visually striking, and with far fewer visitors. Spring (March to May) can be wet and misty, which suits those who like their mountains atmospheric.
The city of Pingxiang itself has a humid subtropical climate similar to the rest of Jiangxi: hot and humid summers, cool winters, moderate springs and autumns. The Anyuan sites are accessible in any weather.
