The Liaoyang City Museum covers four thousand artefacts from the Neolithic period through the Qing Dynasty, drawing on the city's unusual archaeological density — Liaoyang has been continuously occupied for over two thousand four hundred years and has served as a capital or major administrative centre for much of that time.
The collection's strongest sections cover the Han Dynasty commandery period (when Liaoyang was the administrative centre for Liaodong) and the early Qing Dynasty material from the city's brief tenure as Dongjing. The Han period bronzes and the Qing-era court objects sit in reasonable proximity on the timeline but represent completely different civilisational traditions, and the museum is good at making that juxtaposition legible. Admission is free with a passport or Chinese ID.
