Monte Fort

17th-century fort above São Paulo ruins with city views

A 17th-century Jesuit fortress on the hill above the Ruins of São Paulo, famous for the day in 1622 when its cannons repelled a Dutch naval invasion and secured Portuguese rule over Macau. The ramparts now house the Macau Museum, which tells the city's story from both Chinese and Portuguese perspectives, and the view from the top is one of the best in the city.
