Sir Robert Ho Tung Library occupies a quiet historic mansion in Macau's old centre. The building began as a Portuguese residence, was later bought by Hong Kong businessman Sir Robert Ho Tung as a retreat, and was left to the Macau government for use as a public library.
It is a short, worthwhile stop while walking the lanes around Senado Square and St Augustine's Square. The appeal is the setting and architecture as much as the library itself: shaded courtyards, colonial details, and a calmer atmosphere than the busier heritage stops nearby.
