Tongren is about 160 kilometres south of Xining, with bus services departing roughly every 30 minutes from Xining's long-distance bus station (around 35 yuan, three to four hours). Several buses a day also connect to Xiahe in Gansu, making it easy to combine Tongren with a visit to Labrang Monastery on a longer trip. The town is small enough to cover on foot once you arrive; hired motorcycles and minibuses serve the Wutun villages.
