Getting There

Huayang is remote by Chinese standards. The nearest city is Hanzhong, which has an airport with connections to Xi'an, Chengdu, and other major cities, and a high-speed rail station on the Baocheng line. From Hanzhong, the drive to Huayang takes around two to three hours on mountain roads. The Changqing Nature Reserve staff can arrange a vehicle from Hanzhong if contacted in advance — this is the most practical option for most visitors.

From Xi'an, the journey by train to Hanzhong takes around two hours on the high-speed line. Long-distance buses also run from Xi'an to Hanzhong. There is no public transport from Hanzhong to Huayang village; a hired car or the reserve's vehicle is necessary.

The road into the mountains is good paved tarmac for most of the route but narrows and winds considerably in the final stretch. Driving yourself is possible if you have a Chinese driving licence; hiring a driver in Hanzhong is otherwise straightforward.
