Jining Confucius Temple

Jining's Confucius Temple is one of the larger Confucian temples outside Qufu, dating from the Yuan Dynasty with significant additions in the Ming and Qing periods. The complex covers several hectares with the standard arrangement of ceremonial gates, courtyards, and the main Dacheng Hall, where portraits and tablets of Confucius and his disciples are enshrined.

The temple is less visited than Qufu's, which gives it a quieter atmosphere that makes the architecture easier to appreciate. The stone stele forest in the western courtyard has a substantial collection of inscribed tablets recording local history and the temple's own institutional record. Entry is around ¥30.
