Qufu is the obvious day trip from Jining — about 30 minutes by bus or taxi, 20 minutes on the high-speed rail from Yanzhou. The Mencius Temple in Zoucheng (45 minutes south) makes a complementary half-day to Qufu. The Weishan Lake wetlands are 1.5 hours south by bus and worth a half-day for waterbirds and lotus flowers.
