Things to Do

Jining's main appeal is its position on the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal — the world's longest artificial waterway, still partially navigable today — and its role as gateway to the Confucian heartland of southwest Shandong. The city itself is functional rather than beautiful, but its canal heritage and the day-trip options to Qufu and Zoucheng give it more substance than most transit stops.
