Linyi has a railway station on the conventional rail network (not yet high-speed), with connections to Jinan, Qingdao, Beijing, and Shanghai. The city also has Linyi Qiyang Airport (LYI) with flights to major Chinese cities. High-speed rail is planned but not yet serving the city directly; for now, most long-distance travelers use the combination of a flight to Linyi or a high-speed train to a nearby city (Rizhao or Jinan) followed by a conventional train connection.
By road, Linyi is on the G25 Changshen and G35 Jichang expressways. Long-distance buses serve the city from across Shandong. The distance from Jinan is about 250 kilometres; from Qingdao about 260 kilometres.
