The Temple of Yan Hui in the northern quarter of Qufu's walled city is less visited than the Three Kong Sites and correspondingly more peaceful. The complex follows the standard Confucian temple layout — ceremonial gates, courtyards, stele galleries, main hall — but at a scale that allows you to appreciate the architectural details rather than being overwhelmed by them. The stele collection here has some unusual pieces not found in the main temple.
For those who have already absorbed the Three Kong Sites, the Temple of Yan Hui adds a useful postscript: the figure being commemorated here is less famous in the West but deeply meaningful within the Confucian tradition, and the quieter atmosphere allows more genuine contemplation. The temple is about 400 metres north of the Kong Family Mansion; entry is separate, around ¥30.
