Chongqing has a lively bar scene concentrated in the Jiefangbei area, the south bank Nanbin Road riverfront, and the newer Guanyinqiao district in Jiangbei. The riverside establishments are most atmospheric, with outdoor seating and views of the illuminated opposite bank.
Local culture revolves around mahjong, hotpot, and baijiu (white spirit) — the fiery grain liquor produced in the Sichuan basin. Luzhou Laojiao and Wuliangye are the prestige brands. Tea culture is also strong, with teahouses throughout the city serving green teas from the surrounding mountains.
