The Church of Our Lady of Carmel stands at the edge of Taipa Village on a small rise overlooking the old town. Its yellow and white neoclassical facade is one of the most photogenic buildings in Macau — photogenic enough that it appears on souvenirs across the territory. The interior is modest but well-kept, with whitewashed walls and painted wooden ceilings.
The church anchors a small square that connects the colonial-era public buildings of Taipa — the old library, the civic hall — all of which have been restored as cultural spaces. The square is a calm counterpoint to the casino chaos of Cotai a ten-minute walk away, and it works best on weekend mornings when locals come to sit and the tour groups haven't yet arrived.
