Gyantse offers two of the finest historic monuments in Tibet: the Palcho Monastery with its extraordinary multi-chapel Kumbum stupa, and the Gyantse Dzong perched on its crag above the town. Both can be visited in a single day, but the monastery deserves more time than most visitors give it.
