A short walk from the Jokhang, Snowland has been feeding travellers a mix of Tibetan, Nepali, Indian and Continental food for decades. It is not the most adventurous kitchen in town, but the menu is long, the portions are large, and after a few weeks of yak-and-noodles it is the kind of place where you can order a passable pizza or a chicken sizzler without apology.
The Tibetan side of the menu — gyathuk, thenthuk, fried mutton with chillies — is more reliable than the Western items. Service is unhurried in a way that fits the altitude. A good first-night choice while you find your feet in the city.
