Kuqa is on the main Xinjiang railway line, with regular trains from Ürümqi (5–6 hours on high-speed services) and from Kashgar (3–4 hours). Kuche railway station is a few kilometres from the old town centre. There are also flights between Kuqa and Ürümqi. The Kizil Caves and Subash ruins require a taxi or organised tour from the town; the caves are 65 kilometres west and take about 45 minutes to reach. Negotiate the taxi fare to include waiting time at the site.
