Sayram Lake is on the G30 expressway and G312 highway, 120 kilometres east of Yining. From Yining, buses and shared taxis run to Bole (Bortala), passing the lake — get off at the lake entrance and arrange a return separately. From Ürümqi going west, the lake is about 7 hours by road. A summer hop-on hop-off circuit bus loops the lake's eastern shore. The nearest town with accommodation options is Huocheng, about 60 kilometres west; the lake itself has Kazakh yurts and basic guesthouses in summer only.
