Tashkorgan is small enough to walk in an hour, and most of the interest is the setting: the broad grasslands of the Tagharma valley, the stone fortress on its bluff, and the Pamir peaks beyond. A day here is enough to see the sights; staying longer is about the air, the altitude, and the road.
