Yarkand rewards slow exploration on foot. The old city has not been rebuilt for tourism the way Kashgar's has, which means it is more authentically decrepit, more disorientating, and considerably more interesting. The tomb complex and the golden graveyard are the anchors; the bazaar and the carpet workshops fill the rest of the day.
