Dalongqiu Waterfall drops 197 metres down a sheer cliff of dark basalt into a plunge pool at the bottom of a narrow gorge. After heavy rain, the volume of water is impressive enough to fill the gorge with mist, reducing visibility and soaking anyone who stands close. A viewing platform at the foot of the falls offers the full view up the cliff face, and a set of stairs carved into the rock allows you to climb partway up beside the falls for a different perspective.
The gorge leading to the falls is itself worth the walk — about forty minutes from the park entrance through a canyon of volcanic rock, with smaller cascades and moss-covered stones along the streambed. The path is partly covered by an old walkway bolted to the cliff face, which adds to the slightly precarious pleasure of the approach. Dalongqiu is most spectacular in spring and early summer, when rainfall in the mountains is highest; in dry autumn the flow is reduced to a thin strand down the same cliff.
