The best seasons are spring (April to May) and autumn (September to October). Spring brings lush green vegetation and the highest waterfall flows after winter rains; autumn is cooler and clearer, with good long-distance views from the ridge trails. Summer is hot and humid but manageable; the mountains generate their own cloud and rain, and mist in the gorges adds atmosphere even if it reduces visibility.
The Yandang Mountains are a popular domestic destination, and weekends and Chinese national holidays bring significant crowds to the main scenic areas. Dalongqiu and Lingfeng in particular get very busy; Xiansheng and the outer valleys see far fewer people even on peak days. Weekday visits in spring or autumn are ideal.
