Girne is the main ferry port for Northern Cyprus. Ferries run daily to Taşucu (about 6 hours) and less frequently to Mersin (about 10 hours) on the Turkish coast; the service is operated by Akfer and Fergün lines. Booking ahead is advisable in summer.
By road, Girne is 25 km from Lefkoşa (Nicosia) via the main highway through the Kyrenia Pass in the mountains. Shared taxis (dolmuş) run the route regularly and are the cheapest option. If crossing from the south of the island, the Ledra Palace and Metehan crossings in Nicosia are the most convenient.
The nearest airport is Ercan International, about 20 km east of Lefkoşa. There are no direct international flights; all services connect through Turkish airports. Taxis from Ercan to Girne take around 45 minutes.
