Things to Do

Girne's harbour is the focal point of the town — a small Ottoman-era port lined with restaurants and backed by the castle walls. Kyrenia Castle, with its Shipwreck Museum, is the principal sight and warrants a couple of hours. Belapais Abbey, about 6 km to the east, is the most evocative building in northern Cyprus: a ruined Gothic monastery with views to the sea. The Folk Art Museum at the harbour introduces traditional domestic life. The Kyrenia Range behind the town offers walking trails, and the coastal road east leads to quieter beaches.
