Suryalanka Beach

Suryalanka Beach lies about 12 km south of Chirala and is the most visited stretch of coast in the district, though "visited" is relative — it remains quiet by any standard. The beach is wide and clean, with fine dark sand and casuarina groves running behind the shoreline. Andhra Pradesh Tourism operates a resort here (APTDC Beach Resort), which provides basic accommodation and a restaurant serving fresh seafood, making it possible to spend a night by the water.

The beach faces directly east onto the Bay of Bengal, so sunrise here is spectacular on clear mornings. The surrounding area has some low dunes and salt flats that support wading birds during the winter months. Access from Chirala is by auto-rickshaw or shared jeep; most drivers know the route. The road is paved for most of the distance but the last stretch can be rough.
