Lower Manair Dam

Lower Manair Dam sits on the Manair River about 15 kilometres from Karimnagar city. Built between 1974 and 1985 by the government of Andhra Pradesh, the dam is 41 metres high and over 10 kilometres long — one of the larger earthen dams in the region. The reservoir covers 81 square kilometres and provides irrigation to some 163,000 hectares of agricultural land across Karimnagar and surrounding districts.

For visitors, the appeal is mainly the water and the parks along the bank. Ujwala Park, a government-run garden near the dam, is a popular family picnic spot, and the Rajiv Gandhi Deer Park adjacent to it has a small population of spotted deer in a reasonably natural setting. The dam itself is best visited in the early evening when the light is soft and locals come to walk along the bund. Boating is sometimes available, depending on water levels and season.
