Kondagattu Anjaneya Swamy Temple

Kondagattu Anjaneya Swamy Temple sits on a forested hilltop about 35 kilometres from Karimnagar, near Muthyumpeta village in what is now Jagitial district. The temple is dedicated to Lord Anjaneya (Hanuman) and is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in northern Telangana, drawing tens of thousands of devotees, particularly during festivals and on Saturdays — Hanuman's auspicious day.

The setting is pleasant: hills, natural springs, and patches of forest surround the shrine. The climb to the main temple is manageable, and smaller shrines to Venkateswara and Lakshmi are scattered along the path. TSRTC buses run from Karimnagar, making it easy to visit without your own vehicle. The best time to visit is early morning or after 4pm to avoid the midday heat.

A story
The temple is associated with a specific vow: couples who have been unable to have children come here to pray for forty consecutive days, sleeping on the temple premises and eating only vegetarian food. The practice, called Deeksha, draws pilgrims from across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, and on busy festival days the hilltop is crowded with families who have made the journey in fulfillment of a completed vow as much as in hope of one.
