Vemulawada is about 38 kilometres west of Karimnagar — close enough for a half-day trip but important enough that it is a destination in its own right. The Raja Rajeshwara Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, known here as Rajanna, and ranks among the most visited temples in Telangana. The main deity is the Raja Rajeshwara Swamy, flanked by Goddess Raja Rajeshwari Devi and Siddi Vinayaka.
The temple was built in the Dravidian style during the Vemulawada Chalukya period (750–973 CE) and has been enlarged and renovated several times since. The complex includes the Dharma Gundam bathing tank, multiple subsidiary shrines, and a busy market street selling flowers, prasad, and the bangles that pilgrims traditionally offer. The temple is busiest during Shiva Ratri, Bonalu, and the Dasara season, when pilgrims fill every road from Karimnagar.
