By air: Tirupati Airport (TIR), 15 km north-east of the town, has frequent domestic connections to Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, and Visakhapatnam. International flights are limited to a few Gulf services.
By train: Tirupati Main station is one of the busiest in southern India. Direct trains from Chennai (3 hours), Bangalore (5–7 hours), Hyderabad (12 hours), and Mumbai (24 hours). Express trains from Delhi and Kolkata also run, less frequently. The Tirumala Express is the dedicated overnight train from Chennai. Book well in advance during pilgrimage peaks — reservation quotas are exhausted weeks ahead.
By road: State and private buses connect Tirupati to all major southern cities. The APSRTC Central Bus Station is in the centre of town. Chennai is 130 km (3 hours), Bangalore is 270 km (5–6 hours). For onward travel to Tirumala itself, dedicated buses run constantly up the ghat road from the Tirupati bus station — see Getting Around.
