When to Go

Climate: Tirupati town sits on the plains and is hot, with peak temperatures over 40°C in April and May. Tirumala on the hill is meaningfully cooler — usually 5–8°C below the plains, and pleasant year-round. Monsoon rains come July to October.

Pilgrimage seasons: The temple is busier than usual all year, but certain periods are extreme. Brahmotsavam (the nine-day annual festival in September–October) draws enormous crowds — accommodation and darshan tickets are exhausted months in advance. Vaikuntha Ekadashi (December/January) is similar. The summer months coincide with school holidays and produce another major wave. Smaller weekly peaks happen every Saturday-Sunday.

Quietest periods (relatively): Mid-week visits in February or June–early July tend to be the quietest in absolute terms. 'Quiet' here is relative — Tirumala on a quiet midweek morning still sees 30,000-plus visitors.

Time of day: The temple opens around 2:30am for the first darshan. Predawn visits are slightly less crowded and far more atmospheric. Most paid darshan slots and free darshan ticket distribution happen across the early morning.
