Dirang Hot Springs

The hot springs sit on the bank of the Kameng river a short drive east of town, on the road past the Yak Research Centre. There are two small concrete pools fed by sulphurous water that emerges hot enough to bathe in even in winter. The setting is modest — there is no resort, no entrance fee, just the pools and the river running past — but on a cold mountain morning after a long drive it does the job perfectly.

Local Monpas consider the spring medicinal and use it for muscle and joint complaints. Bring a towel and a change of clothes; facilities are basic.
