National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports

NIMAS, the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports, was set up in 2013 on a hillside above Dirang. It runs courses in mountaineering, white-water rafting, paragliding, and aero-sports — drawing on the surrounding Himalayan terrain — and is one of the most active adventure training institutes in India.

For independent travellers the campus is not a tourist site as such, but the institute occasionally runs short adventure programmes open to non-cadets and can be a useful contact point if you want to arrange paragliding flights or a trek into the Eaglenest area south of town. Check ahead before turning up.
