Getting There

The gateway to Majuli is Jorhat, connected by air from Guwahati (45 minutes) and by rail from Guwahati and other Assam cities. The ferry to Majuli departs from Nimati Ghat, about 14 km from Jorhat town — take an auto-rickshaw or share taxi from the bus stand or town centre.

The ferry crossing takes about an hour in the dry season; during the monsoon, high water and currents can extend the journey or cause cancellations. The main ferries accommodate vehicles as well as passengers. There are several departures daily in the morning and early afternoon; exact times vary by season and river conditions. Check locally, as the schedule is not always reliable. The last crossing back from the island is usually in the afternoon, so plan accordingly if you're doing a day trip (though staying overnight is strongly recommended).

Jorhat airport has direct connections to Guwahati and occasionally other northeast Indian cities. The nearest major international hub is Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, approximately 280 km away.
