Getting There

The nearest airport is Gaya International Airport, about 12 kilometres from Bodh Gaya. It has direct seasonal connections to Bangkok, Colombo, and Yangon (for pilgrimage traffic) as well as domestic flights from Delhi, Kolkata, and Varanasi. An auto-rickshaw from the airport to Bodh Gaya takes about 20 minutes and costs around 200–300 rupees.

By rail, Gaya Junction is the main railway station, served by trains from Patna (about 2.5 hours), Varanasi (3–4 hours), Delhi (12 hours), and Kolkata (6–7 hours). From Gaya station, auto-rickshaws and shared jeeps run to Bodh Gaya in around 30 minutes.

By road, Bodh Gaya is on the south side of Gaya city, and there are regular bus connections to Patna and other regional towns. Most visitors arrive via the rail-road combination rather than air. The roads in Bihar are notoriously rough, especially in rural areas; budget extra time for overland journeys.
