Bodh Gaya is above all a pilgrimage city, and the experience of moving through it is one of immersion in living Buddhist practice from across Asia. The area around the Mahabodhi Temple is dense with monasteries built by different Buddhist nations, each in its own architectural style. The monasteries are generally open to visitors and often welcome guests to attend prayers.
