Lotus Temple

One of the most architecturally striking buildings in Delhi. The Lotus Temple is the mother temple of the Bahá'í Faith in India — a series of 27 white marble petals arranged to form a giant lotus flower. Completed in 1986 and designed by Iranian-Canadian architect Fariborz Sahba, it has won multiple architecture awards and receives millions of visitors a year.

The interior is a single vast hall with no altars, idols, or clergy. People of any faith — or none — are welcome to sit in silence or pray. Remove your shoes at the entrance. The gardens around the building are well maintained, and the structure is most beautiful in late afternoon light when the marble glows warm. Calmer on weekday mornings; expect crowds on weekends.
