Dariba Kalan

Old Delhi's main silver jewellery street, trading since the Mughal era

Dariba Kalan — literally "Street of the Incomparable Pearl" — is a 17th-century silver jewellery lane running through the heart of Chandni Chowk. Shah Jahan designated this alley as Old Delhi's premier jewellery market when he built Shahjahanabad, and goldsmiths and silversmiths have been here ever since. The narrow lane is packed with tiny shops selling bangles, earrings, traditional silver artefacts, and gold ornaments at competitive prices.

The street is busiest in the morning when wholesalers and traders crowd the alley alongside tourists. At the far end stands Kinari Bazaar, specialising in braid, ribbons, and wedding accessories — together the two lanes give an unbroken picture of Old Delhi's craft economy.
