Café Bhonsle has been on the same corner near the bus stand since 1947 — one of the oldest continuously operating coffee houses in Goa, and a fixture in the morning routine of the city's older residents. The setup is unchanging: a long marble counter, half a dozen wooden tables and benches, a cabinet of buns and sweet pastries on the wall.
The signature order is South Indian filter coffee — strong, mixed with hot milk and sugar, served in a small steel tumbler standing in a wider steel saucer — and a bun maska (a soft bread roll split and slathered with butter). Open from early morning until lunchtime; closed by 2pm. Cash only; the prices have barely moved in decades.
