Mahatma Mandir is a large convention and exhibition centre built in the name of Gandhi and inaugurated in 2011. The building itself is distinctive — a broad white structure designed to echo the form of a traditional hut, though at considerable scale — and it has become one of the landmarks of modern Gandhinagar. The complex hosts trade fairs, state events, and international exhibitions throughout the year, most notably the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, which brings business and government delegations from across the world.
For the passing visitor, Mahatma Mandir is most interesting when an exhibition is running; the building alone, without the events, is essentially an empty convention hall. Check what is on before making a special trip. The surrounding grounds include a garden walk and a replica of the Dandi March route, commemorating Gandhi's 1930 salt march to the sea.
