Pong Dam Lake is a serious angling destination, though fishing here requires a boat and some patience. Some days the water boils with jumping fish but not a single bite, while other days the catch is relentless -- the record stands at thirty-four fish in a morning on two rods, averaging about eight pounds each.
Good game includes Rohu (Labeo Rohita), Singhada (Sperata Aor), Sol (Channa Micropeltes), and Mully (Wallagoo Attu). Rohu only takes bait during the monsoons. Singhada responds to dead or live bait, or a Mepps No. 3/4 reeled in slowly parallel to the bank. Mully and Sol require live bait, though Sol occasionally takes a slow-moving plug or spinner.
