Chowgan Ground is Kishtwar's main open space, a large flat area north of the town centre ringed by chinar, cedar, and other large trees. It functions as the town's lung — a place for cricket in the evenings, morning walks, and public events — but it also has genuine historical depth as one of the traditional gathering places of the former hill chiefdom.
The ground is a reasonable walk from the bazaar and gives a good view of the surrounding mountains. Across the river to the east, the forested ridges rise steeply; on a clear day you can see snow on the higher peaks. The site of the proposed Kishtwar airport (still unbuilt) is adjacent to the ground. The chinar trees are at their most spectacular in October.
