Jamia Masjid Kishtwar

The Jamia Masjid is the principal mosque of Kishtwar town and one of the oldest Islamic structures in the district. Its white-washed walls and wooden architecture reflect the syncretic building traditions of the Kashmir hills, where mosque construction often drew on the same craftsmen and techniques as Hindu temples and Sufi shrines.

The mosque is active and visitors are welcome outside prayer times. The surrounding area of the old town has a traditional character — narrow lanes, timber-framed houses, and shops selling local produce — that makes it a good place to simply walk and observe. The bazaar nearest the mosque is where you will find local traders selling saffron, dried fruit, and handwoven shawls.
