Lamayuru is compact, but the setting does a lot of the work. Visit the monastery slowly, walk through the village lanes below it, and save the Moonland ridges for early or late light when the folds of the eroded hills are clearest. If you have a driver, add Wanla rather than rushing straight back to Leh.
