Jagannath Temple stands on a hill west of central Ranchi, with a compact white form that echoes the great Jagannath shrine at Puri. It dates to the late 17th century and remains an active place of worship.
The temple is most interesting for the combination of devotion and setting. Climb up for the view, remove shoes before entering the sacred area, and avoid treating it as a photo stop when rituals are underway.
