Kundadri Hill rises 826 metres in the Shimoga district of the Western Ghats, about 17 kilometres from Agumbe on the Theerthahalli road. A narrow road climbs almost to the summit, from where a short path leads to a 17th-century Jain temple dedicated to Parshwanath, the 23rd Tirthankara. The temple is active and maintained, set among massive rock outcrops with forest all around.
The views from the summit ridge extend across layers of forested ridges toward the coast. A seven-kilometre trekking route through dense evergreen forest offers an alternative to driving; it takes around three hours and passes small streams and varied birdlife. The name is believed to derive from Acharya Kundakunda, a Jain philosopher of the 4th century who is said to have meditated here.
